A gold bullion bar as a birthday present
Would you like to get one? Who wouldn"t. Especially if it was worth a considerable amount of money. What would you do then? Buy a new car, pay off your debts, go on holiday? What if the person who gave you the gold bullion actually expected you to sell it and use the money in a particular way? Well, I"ve just given one of my nieces a gold bullion bar for her eighteenth birthday. Her parents don"t have enough money to pay for her driving course. I gave her the gold but I actually don"t expect her to sell it and spend the money on clothes, parties or cigarettes. It"s like a designated donation. I tried to suggest she should sell the bullion when it becomes worth more money and pay for her driving lessons and perhaps a course of French or Spanish. She really should needs to speak a second language. How is she going to get a good job in the future? Or go to university? But of course, I can"t force her to do anything. She"s an adult person now, she can decide for herself. If she wants to buy a ticket to Barcelona or go on holiday to Canada, I won"t object. But I will feel cheated. I don"t have much money myself. This gold bullion bar was actually a present from my grandfather. He hoped it would help me start my own business, but I never really had the guts to do it. Now of course it won"t be worth that much money and I don"t have any other plans, so I decided somebody else might need it more.
